You might be looking at these example websites and wondering, "how can I build one of these?". To give you a better idea of what's involved, let's walk through the process Helium follows when building a church website. 

First, we start by mapping out the content you want. We call this a "sitemap", and it's a list of all the pages you're going to have on your website, with a rough idea of the content to put on each. A typical church would have five basic pages like Home, About, Ministries, Events and Contact. Some churches opt to have a dropdown for Ministries, too, which adds to your page count. 

Secondly, you have to choose your platform. We build church websites in Duda and Wordpress (almost all are in Duda). The choice usually comes down to the functionality required — more complex builds end up in WordPress. If you're not sure, we'll advise you on the best option.

Finally, it's over to the build. Our Copywriter gets to wordsmithing while our Designer creates a captivating design. Both elements will be crafted to reflect your church commnuity, and you can have as much (or as little) input as you'd like along the way. Depending on the website package you choose, the build process might span one day (often the case for simple church websites), one month, or longer. Once complete, the project concludes with a full training session so you can confidently manage future edits in-house. 

Whilst you can attempt to build a church website in-house please keep in mind that building websites is a specialist skill set and it is best handled by professionals who do this all day every day. 

When it comes to the layout and design of your website, it's important to consider your church logo, fonts (if any are established) and colours, as well as the location of your building. For example, if your church gathers near the beach, you might like to use beach-inspired imagery or textures. You'll also need to think about accessibility. For example, if your congregation is mainly the older generation, you could consider some accessibility integrations that make the website easier for them to use.
