Abbily Brand Style Guide

Here’s how we bring brands to life.

  • 1. Briefing

We’ll send you a briefing form that'll lay the foundation for our face-to-face or virtual briefing meeting. Here, we’ll discuss your business — who you are and what you do — and piece together a comprehensive branding brief. Colours, graphics, inspirations, font preferences, and more will all be explored with you.

  • 2. Concepts

You’ll receive two initial concepts from our Graphic Design team. The preferred concept will be refined with two major rounds of revisions and two minor rounds of revisions (revision size is determined by us).

  • 3. Final design & style guide

Once a final logo design has been chosen by you, we’ll put together a style guide so that its application is consistent through all marketing materials — print and digital. This includes colour codes, spacing guides, placement examples, font styles and sizes, and so on.

  • 4. Marketing collateral applications

To get you started, we’ll apply the final logo to up to three pieces of marketing collateral. The specific collateral is up to you — we’ll discuss all the options with you as we explore what’s best suited to your business needs. In the past, our clients have typically gone with designs for business cards, car wraps, pull-up banners, home page mockups, eNews templates, and so on.

  • 5. File handover

Finally, we hand over all the design files in a range of formats. These designs are yours — we don’t have any ownership over them. They can be freely handed to any printer or other marketing teams you work with (just don’t forget to give them the style guide so your aesthetics stay consistent).

Branding & rebranding FAQs.

  • What's the difference between a brand and a rebrand?

Honestly? Not much. Rebranding is geared towards established businesses who already have some kind of visual identity in place. It might have been around for 50 years or five years, but at the very least, there's likely a recognisable logo with a consistent use of colours. Business who have prioritised branding in the past might also have an existing style guide. When established business contact us, we can rebrand them with totally new visual aesthetic (this is our preference), or simply update their current logo and brand to modernise it with fresh colours and a crisper feel.

Branding is for new businesses and start-ups. These initiatives often have some idea of what they want their brand to look like, but don't actually have anything in place yet. We work with these start-ups to provide clear direction and strategy for a visual identity, as well as putting together an wow-brand, logo, and style guide for them.

  • Who owns the files?

Once, we hand over the design files, these designs are yours — we don’t have any ownership over them. They can be freely handed to any printer or other marketing teams you work with (just don’t forget to give them the style guide so your aesthetics stay consistent).

  • How many revisions can I make?

You have four revisions up your sleeve throughout your branding or rebranding project — two major and two minor. A major change might be completely reworking an icon concept, while a minor change could just be a simple colour revision or font change. There’s a bit of grey here, so what constitutes a “major” or “minor” revision will ultimately be decided by us. We’ll always let you know which one you’re using.

  • What happens if I don't like either of the initial concepts?

This is pretty unlikely. You’ll have an in-depth briefing meeting with our Graphic Designers, and provide us with a detailed briefing form (outlined by us), which means that there’s very little room for brief misinterpretation.

Okay, but *what if* you don’t like it? Remember, you have four revisions to use. An initial concept you don’t like can be totally reshaped by you, and turned into something you love. Try not to think of it as “liking the concept” but rather, “liking the direction of the concept”. With your clear guidance and our execution, we can nail it, together.

If you use all four of your revisions and you’re still not happy, we’ll have a separate conversation about what happens next as this need to be considered on a case-by-case basis. For example, depending on your preferences, we might hand over all the files as is and call it there, or negotiate another round of revisions with you.

  • What marketing collateral options can I choose from?

Great question. As we outlined in our design process above, your package includes three marketing collateral applications. You can choose from business card design, a website home page mock-up, car wrap design, banner design, eNewsletter template, and more. If you have something specific in mind, let us know — chances are, we can make it happen.

Just know that this includes design only — we don’t hand over any physical, printed materials. However, we’ll give you all the design files and can put you in touch with a great professional printer.

  • What format will my logo files be handed over in?

Basically, every logo file format — JPG, PNG, RGB, CMYK. PNG and JPG are the main ones you'll be using. RGB and CMYK are used by professional printers if you're printing a physical item.

We also handover all "working files", which come in EPS format. Working files refer to the original file used to actually create your logo. You'll probably never need it, but we hand it to you anyway because... Well, it's yours!

  • What other graphic design can you do for me?

Honestly? Anything. That’s a pretty unsatisfying answer, but there’s simply too much marketing collateral to list here. From simple business cards to delicate website graphics, complex software mockups and lengthy annual reports, if it needs to be designed, we can more than likely do it — see here for more info.

  • Do you provide ongoing graphic design support?

Yes! You can read all about it here.
